If you have a Claude subscription and you’re still paying a video editor, I’m only half joking when I say stop. Every video in this walkthrough was edited with Opus 5.5 using Remotion Claude Code, one prompt per video. I let each run, Claude rendered a full file into my downloads folder, and all I had to do was pick it up, take the transcript, ask Claude for a caption, and post.
I’m Charles J Dove, I run Charlie Automates, and earlier this year my stance on AI video editing was weak. It wasn’t capable enough. Now it is. By the end of this post you’ll have Claude Code Remotion working on your computer so you can start editing right away.
(A note from today: I’ve since moved most of my editing to HyperFrames, and I cover that in how Claude Code edits every short I post. The Remotion flow below is the one I used in the video above.)
How Do You Set Up Remotion Claude Code?
Setup takes one command. Head to remotion.dev, copy the install command, open a Claude Code session and paste it in. Then tell Claude to use Remotion for creating videos and to remember it as your main AI video editing tool until you say otherwise.
That’s the whole technical setup. After you get the hang of it, you can turn your favorite templates into skills.
How Do You Edit a Video With One Prompt?
You give Claude the video, the start point, a few assets and a clear prompt. Here’s what I did:
- Export the file. I made a few manual edits to the opening of this long-form video, then exported it. If you have a raw recording from your phone or computer, you can drop it straight into the terminal.
- Find the timestamp. Even without an editor, find exactly where you want Claude to start. Mine was 14.230 seconds, and I told Claude to edit from there to the end.
- Check what was said. I reread the transcript to decide which assets to hand over.
- Drop in assets. I gave it the Claude logo, the Remotion logo, a screenshot of my video editor and a screenshot of my terminal.
- Paste the prompt. I typed a full prompt telling Claude to follow the transcript and how to use the logos, then hit enter.
I also asked for three versions. V1 and V2 were almost the same, and the only difference was where my face sat: side by side in V1, in the corner in V2. V3 put my face on the left and wasn’t even. V1 won, so I’ll use it as a template. I should have had Claude edit the whole thing instead of editing the first part by hand. It did a better job than I did.
How Do You Record Your Browser for a Video With Claude?
Use the Playwright CLI tool. Claude goes into your browser, records web pages and clicks through them, and then animates those recordings inside your video. I did this by building a web app on localhost and having Claude record itself clicking through it, highlighting things as it went. All I did was tell Claude what to find.
Can You Template a Video From Someone Else’s Proven Video?
Yes. Find a video you want to template off of, give Claude the YouTube or Instagram link, tell it to download the video and watch it using FFmpeg, and use that as the base for your Remotion video. Find your competitors, grab the links and sample away. Your words stay yours; you’re borrowing structure.
Where Do You Get the Free Remotion Prompts?
I put the Remotion download link, the prompts I used and a template library in my free resources. Open any example, copy the full prompt (the real estate short is one of them), and feed it to Claude Code the same way. Grab it here: Remotion videos on charlieautomates.com.
You can also blend Claude with regular video editing. I dropped V1 into my timeline right after my manual edit, and the join looked clean.
Why Does Consistent Content Matter More Than Perfect Content?
Because the goal is to post a short a day, and Claude makes that doable. Social media builds awareness and authority in your niche. I post one to two long-form YouTube videos a week, and that’s where I find more of my conversions for anything I sell online.
None of it needs to be perfect. I’m not the best storyteller or the most strategic person. I’m using the tools I have, very often, and staying consistent. One more rule: have one singular offer. Too many services and too many links dilute your traffic. Put out lots of content with calls to action pointing to one offer.
If you want to go deeper on the content side, here is how I clone viral Instagram reels with a free tool.

FAQ
Can Claude Code edit videos with Remotion? Yes. Remotion renders video from code, and Claude Code writes that code. You give it a video, a start timestamp, assets and a prompt, and it renders a finished file.
How do I install Remotion for Claude Code? Go to remotion.dev, copy the install command, paste it into a Claude Code session, and tell Claude to use Remotion as your main AI video editing tool.
Do I need to edit by hand at all? No, but you can blend the two. I dropped a Claude-rendered section into my timeline after my manual edit.
How do I copy a video style that already works? Give Claude the YouTube or Instagram link, tell it to download the video and watch it with FFmpeg, then use that as the base for your Remotion template.
How many videos should I post? My goal is one short a day, plus one to two long-form YouTube videos a week.
